The Rating System
So after a long, drawn-out process of trying to figure out how to rate the flicks and food, I have come to my decision: two different rating systems. One will be based on the good ol’ report card-style of grading, and the other is based on the amount I would pay to see the film. Below is the breakdown.
Rating Restaurants and Recipes
A: Top-of-the-line, best of the best, and so on. These restaurants and recipes are absolutely delicious, and I will recommend them to anyone who asks.
B: Still really good, these restaurants/recipes are maybe not the absolute best I’ve tasted, but they definitely have some good qualities and are still worth checking out.
C: These restaurants/recipes are so-so. In general, I wouldn’t recommend these, but would go/use if I didn’t really have much else of an option. Still, not awful.
D: Getting worse… there are few redeeming qualities of these restaurants/recipes that I can think of, and definitely wouldn’t recommend them.
F: The bottom of the barrel. These are the worst of the worst, created a horrible experience, and I will likely tell people NOT to go to that restaurant/use that recipe.
*Note: I will also use the +/- system with the letters if I feel that a restaurant/recipe is toward the top or bottom of its letter range.
Rating Movies
$$$$$:Run, don’t walk to the theater and see this film immediately. Run back home and put yourself on the pre-order list for the DVD. Then go back to the theater to see it again. It’s that good.
$$$$: Still really, really good, but has a couple flaws to keep it from that top spot. Highly recommended to friends and family, and will likely buy once it comes to DVD.
$$$: So-so, and maybe not the best use of your time and money. If you’re a fan of the genre or the featured actors, go see it. Otherwise, wait for the DVD release.
$$: Don’t see it in the theater. It’s a waste of money. If you’re going to see it at all, rent it when it comes to DVD. Don’t buy it, though, because- all together now- it’s a waste of money.
$: Don’t see it in the theater. Don’t buy the DVD. Don’t watch it at all, even when it comes to on-demand and you have no other options. Do something else altogether. Life is too short to waste your time with this one.
*Note: Thanks to”Iron Mike” (insert good-natured eye roll here) for the rating suggestion. I’ll also use fractions to denote if it’s in the high or low range of the category.
